Location. Often regarded as one of New Orlean's best kept secrets, locally-owned/operated Hotel Provincial is located in the center of the French Quarter and stands two blocks from boisterous Bourbon Street, three blocks from the famous Café Du Monde, and 10 blocks from the Victorian shops and cafes of the Riverwalk. Two blocks away, Jackson Square serves as home to countless street musicians, as well as some of the city's most historic buildings.
Hotel Features. Checkerboard marble floors and tall windows outline the antebellum hotel's lobby. The Hotel Provincial is comprised of landmark buildings, including a former military hospital and early 19th century living quarters. Unique regional cuisine is served at Stella, named after Marlon Brando's classic line in "A Streetcar Named Desire", the Tennessee Williams' play set in New Orleans. Stanley Restaurant and Bar serves breakfast and lunch in a casual French Quarter setting. Banquet facilities, business services and wireless Internet are available. A hidden brick courtyard surrounds four outdoor garden patios with two outdoor pools. The hotel provides discounted access to a health club 11 blocks away.
Guestrooms. Offering a relaxing ambience, guestrooms of the Hotel Provincial feature French-Creole-style antique furniture, plush mattresses, feather pillows and floral prints. Amenities include designer toiletries and cable television.
Expert Tip. Part of the Hotel Provincial was once a Confederate surgical hospital and may be the haunting grounds for ghosts of days gone by. In that part of the hotel, specifically building number five, maids have reported seeing Confederate soldiers, surgeons and nurses of that time period. City archive reports tell of blood stains appearing and disappearing mysteriously on the bedding in various guestrooms. A maintenance worker caught a glimpse of the hospital as it looked in the late 1800's as the doors to the elevator he was riding opened. When the elevator doors closed and reopened, everything returned to the present day setting.
